The UK Centre for Materials Education provides learning and teaching resources, free of charge, to support academics, including those delivering HE programmes in FE colleges.

Edexcel have now revised their national courses in engineering for delivery from September 2007. The specialist pathway for metallurgy has been withdrawn, but by selection of the relevant units in the Manufacturing Engineering pathway an equivalent qualification can be constructed.

The specialist units of interest to the Materials community are:

  • Unit 10: Properties and Applications of Engineering Materials
  • Unit 36: Mechanical and Thermal Treatment of Metals
  • Unit 37: Structure and Properties of Metals
  • Unit 38: Industrial Alloys
  • Unit 39: Metallurgical Techniques
  • Unit 40: Extraction and Refining of Metals
  • Unit 41: Liquid Metal Processing
