Following the previous 6 year’s very successful and enjoyable Materials Student Reps’ Weekends, the UKCME is once again running a FREE residential weekend for students studying Materials in both Materials and Engineering Departments, who have been elected to represent their fellow students, either at departmental, faculty or university level.
The 2007 Materials Student Reps’ Weekend is being held from 6.00pm on Friday 09 November to 2.00pm on Sunday 11 November, at Perth-y-Pia Outdoor Activity Centre located in the heart of the Black Mountains National Park (10 miles from Abergavenny in South Wales). For further information on the location see the web link below:
The purpose of the weekend event is to help students to appreciate how they can best represent the interests of their fellow students on various Committees, by enabling them to gain an insight into the principles and practices of MATERIALS EDUCATION in institutions across the UK. We hope that the students will find the activities useful but also that they will meet with, and learn from, students in similar positions in other universities and colleges. The course will be highly interactive and be both enjoyable and constructive.
Feedback from participating Student Reps attending our past events has been that they had been encouraged to reflect on their learning, to network with others in similar roles and courses from across the UK, to gain new knowledge and skills as Reps, to increase their overall confidence and enthusiasm and that they had a lot of fun doing it.
