Research in Teaching and Learning: Getting Started

Wednesday 24 March 2004, 10.00 - 16.00, Royal Institute of British Architects, London

The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with an overview of the scope of pedagogic research in the science related disciplines. The approaches by which you might define, plan and implement your own pedagogic research programmes will be discussed, and there will be an opportunity to explore possible collaborative research projects with other delegates.

This event is free of charge to those in UK Higher or Further Education.

This workshop has been organised by our partner centre LTSN Physical Sciences and is held in collaboration with the Subject Centres for Engineering, Psychology, and Geography, Earth & Environmental Sciences.

A full programme and registration instructions are available at http://www.materials.ac.uk/events/research.asp.

Creative Science Teaching in Higher Education

Friday 28 to Sunday 30 May 2004, 6.00pm Friday to 2.00pm Sunday, Gregynog Hall, University of Wales

An intensive workshop weekend exploring a range of innovative approaches for enlivening and enriching the learning experience of science students in Higher Education. The Workshop will be led by two experienced practitioners in this area who have presented science in novel ways to a wide range of audiences from primary school children to University academics.

This event is free of charge to those in UK Higher Education and all accommodation and meals will be provided.

This workshop has been organised by our partner centre LTSN Physical Sciences.

Integrating e-Learning into Materials Education

Wednesday 23 June 2004, University of Liverpool

The theme of this event will be the integration of e-learning into existing and new courses with an emphasis on balancing the use of e-learning with other types of approach. Members of the international academic materials community will run sessions looking at the factors that mark the successful use of e-learning, giving guidance on how to get the best out of existing resources, and providing tips on finding new resources. There will also be sessions dedicated to providing hands-on experience of some of the latest developments in e-learning for materials science.

This workshop is being hosted jointly by UKCME, MATTER and the DoITPoMS FDTL3 project.

Further information and a full event programme will be published in the near future.

For further information on any of our events please contact Matt Murphy by email at murphym@liv.ac.uk.
